I am writing a prescription here, so let's get to the point. How can you lower your blood pressure, dodge hypertension, escape diabetes, avoid or overcome heart disease, prevent cancer, lose weight, get in shape, and enjoy lifelong health?
1. Keep out of your body cigarettes, refined sugars, foods made from enriched flour, soft drinks, other sugary drinks, treated meats, canned foods, sprayed fruits, sprayed vegetables, junk snacks, etc!! You can't become healthy unless you stop killing yourself ... slowly!
2. Commit to the principle stated in 3 John 1:2 , that physical health must be built on the solid foundation of spiritual well-being.
3. Become and remain spiritually active and involved in one local church. Experience shows it is best to connect with fellow believers within a church family as a network of supportive friends. You may think "organized religion" is bad for you, but "disorganized religion" is far worse!
4. Strive for integrity or ethical behavior so you can nurture a guilt-free conscience.
5. Read, memorize and study the Bible to feed your spirit with godly wisdom, and to strengthen your moral muscles.
6. Meditate on Scripture by speaking it out loud while you think it through. That is, use your mouth to feed your mind with God's word.
8. Worship and pray privately and daily; worship and pray weekly with fellow believers.
9. Listen to clean music; sing along if the music is suited for singing along; make every effort to feel the music and soak in its message (if any).
10. Forgive anyone who has abused, hurt, insulted, wronged or mistreated you; be quick to forgive. Keep the duration of anger, bitterness, grudge or resentment to under 24 hours. Someone has said, "Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die." To forgive is to vomit emotional poison so you can live full and free.
11. Fast one day a week; replace breakfast, lunch and/or supper with fluids (purified water and 100% natural/organic juice). Water and/or juice fasting will help the vital organs of your body to flush out toxins.
12. Laugh a lot; for your minimum dose of laughter, read and laugh at one joke a per day. Value a joke-book as much as you value a cookbook. Laughter can be a sign of deep-seated joy; laughter is a messenger of health. See Proverbs 17:22 .
13. Volunteer at your church or another service organization and serve people in need. When you use your health, strength and time to serve others, you are sowing seeds of good health, and you are likely to reap much more than you sow.
14. Get adequate sleep and rest every day and night.
15. Only eat food that is whole-grain and organic. It is essential that your staple food be naturally grown and un-refined.
16. For fluids, only drink purified water and 100% natural juice.
17. Take herbal/natural supplements and vitamins to put into your body whatever nutrients are missing from your diet. Buy all your supplements and vitamins from a health food store, making sure they contain no man-made chemicals!
18. Exercise your body for at least 30 minutes every day. Taking a daily walk is a great way to start. I'm thinking of buying the 10-DVD set of the Insanity Workout program, but I want to convince my men's group for us to do the workout together!
19. Be sexually fulfilled. As a devotee to New Testament Christianity I subscribe to a monogamous, heterosexual relationship. My going-20-year-old marriage is a major layer in my healthcare. My wife has been mostly generous in sharing marital sex with me, and medical science now has proof of the health benefits of sexual satisfaction.
20. Instead of a curse, speak blessing. Wholesome words spoken over yourself or over others are streams of health and channels of well-being. See Proverbs 12:18; 16:24 .
21. Stay connected; maintain wholesome relationships with others who are spiritually engaged and morally sound. A loving church family can offer the healthy relationships you need to thrive. Touch and hug people; allow yourself to be touched and hugged. None other than Jesus Christ valued the power of that loving, human touch; often Jesus would touch people as part of healing their physical conditions. See Matthew 8:3,15; 9:29; 20:34; Mark 7:33 ). Interestingly, many sick people desired to touch Jesus, hoping to get healed from touching Him. See Matthew 9:21; 14:36; Mark 6:56; 8:22 . ~mogama~
