The irony of it all... Oh how desperately he tried to hang on to Elin Nordegren and keep his marriage together, a marriage DURING which Tiger committed one sexual transgression after another to the tune of ten or more.
Is there a wife anywhere in America, anywhere in the world who can take these many acts of marital betrayals, even if the husband has confessed and shown contrition? Maybe, but not Elin.
In his statement to leave professional golf indefinitely, Tiger Woods made it clear his sole purpose was to become a better husband and father. In short, to save his marriage. Well, it takes two to make or keep a marriage, and Elin cannot take it anymore. She wants out.
People magazine reports Elin has “made up her mind. There's nothing to think about: he's never going to change."
According to a source via ABC News, the “divorce is 100 percent on." Reportedly Elin plans to talk to an attorney within a week. The Mirror reports it's Sorrell Trope, a celebrity lawyer.
The report says, "Elin is believed to be planning to file for divorce in California -- where the couple have a home -- and not Florida, where they live."
Why file in California rather than in Florida? Simple: That will all but guarantee that Elin will split everything 50/50 with Tiger. If so, that could make theirs one of the most lucrative divorce deals in human history. Do we expect anything associated with Tiger to be anything but mega?
Already Elin has been “spotted without her wedding ring", according to The Huffington Post, which quotes MSNBC's The Scoop as saying Elin and Tiger are “living separately now."
Christmas Day may be the only glue holding the Woods' home together now, the only thing between the couple's marriage and the divorce court. And with that, the fall of Tiger Woods will have been complete, as the celebrity hits the abyss. But the hopeful beam in all this is that when the divorce happens, that will leave Tiger only one direction to go: UP, though the upward climb may take months if not years to pull off. When I was in marriage prep, my priest brought to our attention a very valid point. If you go into the marriage thinking it can't and shouldn't last through infidelity, then you should reconsider your plan for marriage. It sounded bizarre to me, but after thinking about it, it made sense. It's a life long commitment and everyone has their weak moments. Some people may think that's an unrealistic or naive point of view, but I feel that the commitment to marriage cannot be undervalued, even through an experience such as this. Please log in to respond to this comment.I tell you, Keith, I have not met many humans who value marriage to the same esteem as you do. I have met some couples who have endured infidelities - one or two instances of cheating - but none more than three, five or ten incidents of adulteries. That's why I'll understand if Elin files for divorce. ~mogama~Please log in to respond to this comment.
I think Elin is entitled to more than half the assets. What about the pain, suffering, humiliation, embarrassment she must have endured when she found out about his serial adulteries? Also, her life may have been endangered if the great athlete had contracted HIV or another STD during his wanderings. He didn't exactly choose to mate with the higher layers of society. Please log in to respond to this comment.Well, Carolyn, that's the hard-nosed truth, but it needs to be heard. Thanks for chipping in. ~mogama~Please log in to respond to this comment.
I meet Tiger several years ago at a ski resort in Utah with his wife right after they got married. They were very approachable and nice... and looked very much in Love. This is really sad... for everyone... its hard to believe.I just keep asking myself, when is all of this crazy behavior going to stop? God blesses you with all of this talent etc... and guys like Tiger go out and do stuff like this... hard to imagine he will ever recover from this...Please log in to respond to this comment. So, you really met Tiger? Good for you. Yes, Riley, "sad" is the right description of this incident. Because Tiger is still young, it is possible he will recover, pending how he handles the situation from here on. Let's remember that President Clinton has bounced back for the most part from his Monica Lewinsky scandal. Forgiveness by the public can be a powerful force for a celebrity to make a comeback. ~mogama~Please log in to respond to this comment.
If Michael Vick can recover, so can TIGER...Please log in to respond to this comment.
