I Don't Want My High School Student Hearing President Obama's Speech

Today, September 7, 2009, a Kentucky parent with two students in high school received a permission letter with the heading "Request for your child to view President Obama's address to School Children". The link to the president's speech can be found at whitehouse.gov.
The outraged parent wrote this comment on the form: "It is very sad that this permission is necessary at all! I expect better from Kentucky"
I almost shared this parent's outrage until I read the president's speech online. Then I realized this parent made a serious error by making his young student fall prey to the dangerous Obama, that sneaky community organizer, who's out to recruit and enlist our kids for his socialist agenda.
Every parent should be on his or her toes about what this president wants to tell our students. I know that recent presidents have addressed students including President George H.W. Bush who outright asked students to help with ideas to carry out his agenda but I don't want an ultra-liberal president talking to school children.
"But wasn't President Bill Clinton a democrat, and didn't he speak to students?" You ask.
To which I respond, "Yes, but President Clinton was moderate, not liberal, like President Obama. Besides, Mr. Clinton came from a two-parent home..."
Who can argue that Mr. Obama's very presence on campus, whether in person or by video, may send hints to my kids to think about using condoms, planning an abortion, or joining the campaign for universal healthcare. Who knows if the President's entourage will wear certain buttons with covert messages? Who knows if they will be passing out condoms, contacts to abortion clinics, and brochures on the benefits of healthcare for all, including illegal immigrants from Mexico and places like that?
Do I really want President Obama saying words like these to my teenage daughter and son? I do not want this president telling my child
"Every single one of you has something you're good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That's the opportunity an education can provide."
No, I don't want Mr. Obama challenging my child, saying, "Maybe you could be a good writer maybe even good enough to write a book or articles in a newspaper but you might not know it until you write a paper for your English class. Maybe you could be an innovator or an inventor maybe even good enough to come up with the next iPhone or a new medicine or vaccine but you might not know it until you do a project for your science class. Maybe you could be a mayor or a Senator or a Supreme Court Justice, but you might not know that until you join student government or the debate team."
My children and I have been through some pretty difficult times, and I don't the president saying to my child, "at the end of the day, the circumstances of your life what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you've got going on at home that's no excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude. That's no excuse for talking back to your teacher, or cutting class, or dropping out of school. That's no excuse for not trying. Where you are right now doesn't have to determine where you'll end up. No one's written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future."
And who is Barack Obama to lecture my child like this? "I expect you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you. So don't let us down don't let your family or your country or yourself down. Make us all proud. I know you can do it."
Look, if you want to know the truth, another important reason why I don't want any of my school-age children within an ear short of this president is that I am a born-again conservative, and the last thing I pray for is for Mr. Obama to succeed in any way. Also, I am a big fan of that conservative icon of our movement, Mr. Rush Limbaugh, with his twin Sean Hannity, whom I consider the real President of these United States. What will I tell Rush if I allow my child to listen to Obama? I'd feel like a traitor to the cause to make Barack Obama "Jimmy Carter II".
So, "No, Mr. President! I will spare my child the danger of hearing your speech, because I'm pro-life and don't believe in public-option healthcare, and I'm pretty sure you'll find a way to sneak abortion and universal coverage into your speech. You have suddenly plunged my beloved country into a moral crisis in just seven months. And now you want to brainwash and indoctrinate my baby too? No way!"

More commentsMr. Mogama,Your warp view of reality has been made clear. To be a fan of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity further lets me know that you have no clue of what you are talking about. You are part of the problem with race and political relationships in this country. People like you are self righteous in your discourse and all you see is your own point of view.I see why you have the following you do have. Unfortunately they can't see through your twist views. I know that you say you are a Christian yet you follow a man "that says the president should be shout".How can you live with the hypocrisy that is spilling out of your mouth like a broken tiolet. It is clear that you suffering from grand dilustion. However, let me inform you even if you agree or not, President Obama is the best thing that has happen to this country, and will be in years to come. His speech is clear and direct to the childern of this nation take control of your own destiny, be responosible, and get good education. Long live the Obama administration.Lawrence,I'm pretty sure Mr. Mogama's article is satirical...
Socialist agenda?! What khat are you chewing?youre bordering on paranoia and ignorance;this Presidents is going to encourage your kids to sport condoms?!Discount tickets to abortion clinics?!youre worse than just damn scary. And you have your own kids?Even scarier. His speech was the single most inspirational speech, ever,to kids about their personal responsibility to themselves and their country ,a speech most kids NEVER hear from their own parents.Wake up and smell the future;Obama isnt just another hack lying politician but another FDR and Lincoln rolled up into one man;your criticisms reflect right wing feeble-mindedness at its worst.
Mogama, I'm thinking you are writing tongue-in-cheek. You will definitely get many comments. I will coming back to read.Very tongue-in-cheek I think (hope) ... I look forward to seeing more comments in this article :)I too hope this is tongue and cheek. If not it could be scary in my humble opinion.Michelle Mackin
Mogama, I know your article is only calling for response? What University did you attend? Where are you from? Do you pray for your leadership? Who hurt you? Are you prejudice or did the President hurt you in some way? I do not judge an artist until I see the portrait. Other than that, I would be pre-judging and the beam in my eye becomes a blind spot. Take heed ye stand, lest ye fall. ??????
All I can say is that I hope you have written this as a joke, because that is what it is. But the way you write makes me think that you really believe what you are saying. That is scary.
I may be totally off my rocker here, but I have a suspicion that Mogama's article is a work of satire.I'm beginning to suspect that as well, especially since he hasn't responded to any of our comments. He's probably laughing at me and some of the others for taking this seriously. The thing is though, even though Mogama is almost certainly writing satirically, others in the news have expressed the same position and meant it - which is a bit worrying!I think Poe's Law is applicable here:"Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of fundamentalism or extremism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing having seen similar REAL ideas from real extremists / fundamentalists" :)
I hope you respond to this becuase it is very important to me. I see what you were doing here. Exposing the paranoia that comes from living in the world views instead of following God's will. I disaprove of your article however for the same reason that so many had problems with the president saying anything to their children. We are beginning to be taught that calling things exactly as we see them either correct or incorrect is wrong. I for example got in a recent heated debate with a Christian friend of mine about if abortion was a political or religious issue. It is both and I would state that as a fact. When we look through history at societies that sacrificed the weak, elderly, or the unborn and their own young to serve themselves, we will see similar results of failiar. Anyway, I'm not going to debate abortion, because I know that you find it to be a sick practice just as I do, but my point is that this Christian friend is so far from truth that she said to me that she wanted it to stay leagal so that young women wouldn't die from having illegal ones. By that premous of course, we could have almsot no laws. It's insain, but we are convinced that we can't say out loud someohting is wrong and evil. So many people feel that this president is an evil and power hungry man that they do not want their children looking up to him when in fact his socialist agenda being carried out will distroy many opportuinities for these children when they reach adult life. Some parents just want to stand up and say, I don't care what he has to say. My child isn't listening becuse I appose everything he has promised to do." I dont' happen to be one of htose people Mogamo, but do you understnad what I'm saying? People feel so powerless that they just want to say no to him in some way for their children and for what they know is happening here. And this article has them questioning themselves, when there are many people i wouldn't want speakign to my kids even ifthey had soemthing god to say in that moment. This man is anti American and travels around the world telling people that Americans are sorry and we are evil. We have done some wrong, but so has everyone. Obama can appologize to the world for his own actions, not mine!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe Obama had to neutralize the school speech, because so many people were disapproving of the one he intended to give. At any rate, the one he gave seemed innocuous enough. If you are a thinking American, all you have to do is pay attention to whom Obama is bringing to D.C. to "help" run the country and draw your own conclusions about the current administration. To date only one of the new Czars has resigned, but, at least, he's gone. And, we certainly can't thank the mainstream media for that.Is Obama any worse that the other tax and spend presidents? Time will tell. Last year's bailouts were financed by the American people, and we all can see how that is turning out. Soon more bonus money will be going to corrupt executives of some of the companies who received those bailouts. Rush to spend again? Surely you jest!I don't care on what Congress wants to spend money. We can't continue printing money to finance health care or anything else. This country is broke, period. I listened to NBC's Chris Matthews show this a.m., and one of the guests pointed out that the next shoe is about to drop. The commercial real estate market is near crashing and will have devasting consequences on Wall Steet. Will that trigger another bailout with money we don't have and have to "print"?What happens if Japan and China and other foreign countries decide not to finance any more of America's debt (How ludicrous is that anyway?)? Or, if they demand debt repayment, and we can't pay on time, what then? Doesn't anyone think about the commitments we've already made with money we don't have?If the American people want undistorted news reports, there are plenty of media reports available, and many of the better sources are independent and/or foreign and have no dog in the race, so to speak. This is my country, and I am proud to stand up against tyranny and governmental abuse whenever it occurs, regardless of whom is the perpetrator.Great article.
Sorry, I wasn't logged in when I wrote the above.
With the variety of responses to this article, I harbor greater appreciation for the diversity of the readership at SearchWarp. We range from extreme conservative to extreme liberal, from Obama-is-Satan to Obama-is-Messiah. Thanks to each of you for taking the time to read and comment. Blessings to you:-) ~mogama~
